Did Others Promise Help and Then Back Out?

Perhaps when you found out you were pregnant, family, friends, and even your partner were excited about the baby. They offered to support you financially and emotionally. But as the time got closer, or when you and your baby arrived home, the promised help disappeared.

If you’re already raising other children, you may have thought that adding one more wouldn’t be that difficult, but raising a child or children requires a lot of time, energy, and money. You need the support of others to be an effective mother.

Without help, you feel alone and isolated. It’s understandable and not that uncommon. Family and friends mean well, but change their minds when they realize all that’s involved with a newborn. Situations change, and your partner may no longer want to take on the responsibility.

Adoption Is a Loving Option

Unfortunately, adoption is greatly misunderstood. People think you’re “giving up your baby,” but the truth is, you’re giving your baby a better life. You recognize that you cannot provide the amount of attention and energy your child needs, so you choose other parents to raise them for you.

Placing your child for adoption is not an easy decision, but it could be a great fit for your unique situation. Adoption is the permanent legal process that transfers all parental rights and responsibilities from a child’s biological parents to the adoptive parents. It is not co-parenting.

You Have Choices

Even after giving birth, you have the same options as an expectant mother considering adoption. Here are some of the decisions you can make:

  • Selecting the adoptive parents who will raise your child. We have several approved families currently waiting to adopt your child.
  • Determining the future you hope your child will have.
  • Choosing the adoption plan you are most comfortable with. You can choose from an open, semi-open, or closed adoption. We’ll explain all three to you in detail.
  • Meet the adoptive family you select and determine how to introduce them to your child.
  • Determine the type of communication you want with the family.
  • Receive free legal assistance, mental health counseling, and physician services and fees.

All Birth Mothers Have to Wait to Consent to an Adoption

Every state has a waiting requirement after a child’s birth before a mother can sign any legal papers consenting to adoption. In Texas, a birth mother must wait a minimum of 48 hours before she can sign a legal agreement to release her child for adoption.
