Woman thinking about adoption as an option

When considering adoption, you may have mixed reactions from those close to you. It’s okay for not everyone to understand why you’re choosing adoption. Making this pregnancy decision based on what’s best for you and your future is important.

Choosing adoption is a loving, selfless decision that offers your child a hopeful future. In this blog post, we want to share how adoption works, your adoption options, and the free adoption resources you need to make a confident decision for yourself.

The Adoption Process

These days, adoption allows you, as the birth mother, to decide what’s best for your unique pregnancy situation and your future.

Adoption is flexible based on your individual needs and wishes for your child and your living situation. If you want to continue a relationship with your child, you can have that! Or if it’s better for safety reasons or for closure to remain anonymous, you can also have that type of privacy.

Your Adoption Options

You have more than one type of adoption option. Here are the three types of adoption plans to choose from:

  • Open Adoption: This type of adoption offers the most open relationship with your child and the adoptive family of your choosing. An open adoption plan allows you and the adoptive family you have chosen to exchange identifiable information. You and the adoptive family come up with a mutual agreement to arrange visitations, calls, emails, letters, etc.
  • Closed Adoption: If you’re worried about the safety of your child or have other concerns, closed adoption may be for you. With closed adoption, you can guarantee your adoption documents are closed. The birth family and the adoptive family share no identifying information. Everything is confidential. The courts seal the record of the biological mother on the original birth certificate.
  • Semi-Open Adoption: This adoption plan is the most popular one and allows you to select the adoptive family and have the opportunity to meet and correspond with them. However, all contact is made through a third party. At Texas Christian Adoptions, our counselors can handle all correspondence and arrange meetings. You do not have direct contact with the adoptive family.
